The thirty-second edition of the Mexican Open Tennis crowned a new champion, Tomas Machac, who defeated the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in two sets of 7-6 and 6-2. Machac capped off his participation as the revelation of the event in an exciting match that lasted 1 hour and 37 minutes at the GNP Arena.
In statements at the end of the match, Machac expressed: 'I was able to get familiar with Acapulco. Thank you.' This is the first ATP title that Machac has won, allowing him to earn 500 points in the world ranking and reach the number 20 position. Additionally, he took home a prize purse of 483,515 dollars, approximately one million Mexican pesos.
Álvaro Falla emphasized the economic importance of the tournament, highlighting that the 650 million pesos impact is a step towards normalcy in the region.
