From the Altiplano federal prison, the former rector of the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM), Jesús Alejandro Vera Jiménez, published a letter in which he accuses Governor Graco Ramírez Garrido Abreu of being responsible for his detention and for having initiated a political persecution against him during his administration.
The document, dated November 2025 and delivered to this journalist by people close to the academic, was written from the Federal Social Rehabilitation Center No. 1, in Almoloya de Juárez, State of Mexico.
In a message on his X social media account, he recalled that during his administration (2012–2018), alleged financial irregularities at UAEM were reported, related to the so-called "Master Swindle," and stated: "Today, true justice will begin to be done."
Jesús Alejandro Vera, who was one of the main critics of Ramírez during his tenure, currently faces accusations for the alleged embezzlement of public funds.
However, he specified that the Collegiate Court has not yet resolved the appeals filed by the authorities, which he claims keeps a process open that violates his human rights.
He also mentions that the accusations presented by the Morelos Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office were withdrawn or declared inadmissible in 2024, after it was proven through amparo lawsuits that they lacked legal basis.
"I ask that institutions act with independence and respect for the Constitution," he emphasizes.
Hours after the letter became known, a judicial hearing was held at the Altiplano prison, scheduled for 22:00 on November 7.
The resumption was set for 05:00 on November 9.
Prior to the document's release, former Governor Graco Ramírez publicly celebrated the former rector's detention.
The procedure began with delays because the former rector was not present at the start, and was postponed after his defense requested additional time to review 13 volumes and around 30 annexes of evidence.
After his term at the head of UAEM, he entered politics as a candidate for governor of Morelos for Nueva Alianza in 2018 and later joined the government of Cuauhtémoc Blanco as the general director of the State of Morelos Science and Technology Council (CCyTEM), a position he resigned from in 2019.
In the document, Vera Jiménez asserts that for several years he has faced criminal proceedings "built on unfounded accusations" stemming, he claims, from political interests.
"For several years, I have been the subject of a political persecution originating during the government of former Governor Graco Ramírez Garrido Abreu, who has publicly recognized having initiated the accusations against me."
The former rector recalls that in 2024, the Fourth District Court in Administrative and Federal Proceedings of the State of Mexico nullified the arrest warrant issued against him in criminal case 400/2020, concluding that it lacked sufficient foundation and motivation.
"I am not seeking impunity, but true justice."
