Mass Shooting at Funeral in Apaseo el Grande

In Guanajuato, on the night of Thursday, February 6, a group of people attending a funeral in Apaseo el Grande were attacked by gunfire. As a result of the armed attack, seven people -six men and one woman- lost their lives, as confirmed by the Municipal Government of Apaseo el Grande. In addition, at least thirteen people were injured and were taken to hospitals in the area.

According to preliminary reports, the attack was carried out by armed individuals who arrived at the cemetery of the community of San José Agua Azul, where the group of people was gathered. Without saying a word, the assailants opened fire indiscriminately before fleeing in a vehicle. The incident occurred around 7:00 PM while the people were participating in the funeral inside the community cemetery.

The response to the tragedy was immediate, with experts from the State Attorney General's Office and security forces such as the Mexican Army and the National Guard present at the scene. An abandoned van was located that the attackers presumably used. Subsequently, a second attack was reported in the same community that left three people injured.

This is the tenth massacre event recorded in Guanajuato during 2025. Among the most significant events are an attack on a tortilla shop in Jerécuaro, a shooting at a wedding in Salamanca, and an attack in a bar in Celaya. Authorities have deployed a joint operation to apprehend those responsible for this multiple homicide.
