Violence in Guanajuato continues unabated and this time the victim was local Morena deputy, María Eugenia García, who claimed to have been pursued by armed men. The incident occurred while the legislator was traveling with her family on the toll road from Apaseo el Grande toward Querétaro, when a white truck with three armed men crossed their path.
"I don't know what their intention was; they wanted to stop us," García said. Although they were able to evade the attackers, the deputy pointed out that these dangerous situations occur even in broad daylight.
The pursuit suffered by the deputy coincides with a violent day in Guanajuato, marked by a new massacre. In Apaseo el Grande, a group of hitmen burst into a funeral, leaving a toll of seven dead and 13 injured, including six men and one woman. Without saying a word, the attackers fired indiscriminately before fleeing in a vehicle.
María Eugenia García recounted that, after the incident, she called 911 for help, but the operator could only keep her on the line. Subsequently, she went to the National Guard barracks for protection. The deputy received a call from the Secretary of Security to follow up on the report.
The legislator issued a video warning citizens not to drive at night in the area of the incident. The attack occurred around 7:00 PM and at least another 13 people were injured and transported to local hospitals.
Military and security authorities arrived at the scene to secure the area of the tragedy. Subsequently, a second attack was reported in the same community, where three people were injured. The local government initiated a coordinated operation to locate those responsible for the armed attack.
Amid the tension, García revealed that, despite the situation, her husband was willing to stop the vehicle, but it was she who told him to continue without stopping.
