In the midst of the wave of violence that is sweeping through Baja California Sur, the United States embassy issued an alert for its citizens residing in Cabo San Lucas, San José del Cabo, and La Paz. The diplomatic office warned about a possible increase in security, restrictions on public transportation, and other measures to address the situation.
U.S. authorities noted that various local media and social networks reported on a shooting that spread through several neighborhoods of Cabo San Lucas during the early hours of April 25. Additionally, three buses were reported burned in La Paz and Los Cabos on April 24, the murder of a law enforcement officer, and three other homicides on April 22, as well as the publication of threats against officials by cartels.
In light of these events, the U.S. embassy in Mexico issued a series of recommendations for its citizens, including: avoiding crowds and being alert for any signs of disturbance, leaving a public place where the situation changes rapidly or seeking safe shelter, monitoring local media for updates, and following the instructions of local authorities, being aware of the surroundings, and notifying friends and family about their safety.
