The homicide of José Luis Corral Morales, political advisor to deputy Rubén Carrillo Buenfil, on October 30, has triggered a series of actions that have uncovered criminal practices within the "Andrés Quintana Roo" taxi drivers' union in Cancún. Salomón 'N', also known as 'Mafer', who took over as interim leader of the organization after Carrillo Buenfil's leave, was arrested along with Óscar Antonio 'N', commissioner of the State Land Transport organization. The Attorney General's Office of Quintana Roo has presented them as suspects due to their alleged involvement in the qualified homicide of a collaborator.
The events occurred on October 25 when Corral Morales was kidnapped outside his home, and five days later, his body was found on the road to Mérida with apparent signs of torture. Following the arrest of the union leaders, a search was conducted at the union's offices where drugs, cash, and an alleged torture chamber used to beat drivers or other individuals who did not fulfill their obligations were discovered.
After being closed for a week, authorities lifted the seals on the offices of the "Andrés Quintana Roo" Taxi Drivers' Union. Meanwhile, José Rosendo 'N' was arrested in Izamal, Yucatán, identified as another person related to the murder of Corral Morales. It is believed this individual was providing information to the perpetrators about the victim's movements before his kidnapping.
With the arrest of 'Mafer', two general secretaries of taxi drivers' unions in Quintana Roo have now been detained for homicide. This incident adds to another event that occurred in August when Eleazar Sagrero, leader of the "Tiburones del Caribe" union in Tulum, was also detained for alleged homicide, although he later remained under house arrest following roadblocks set up by his supporters.
Although the Attorney General's Office of Quintana Roo has lifted the closure seals of the Taxi Drivers' Union facilities in Cancún, investigations are still ongoing in search of possible connections to criminal groups. During the search, rumors circulated about the existence of a clandestine grave at the site, although this information has been dismissed by the agents.
