Three ex-federal police officers who were actively working as members of the Municipal Police of Celaya, Guanajuato, were shot dead inside a bar on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 23. The forensic experts from the State Attorney General's Office began collecting evidence to initiate the investigations.
The three murdered police officers were part of the 350 members of the defunct Federal Police who were currently serving as municipal police in Celaya, although they are in the process of being discharged. Despite this, they remain in the city, not performing surveillance duties, as this responsibility falls on the national guards and soldiers of the Mexican Army.
The municipal government of Celaya, affiliated with the Morena party, decided to discharge these 350 federal police officers, but the process has not yet been completed. With this tragic event, the number of police officers murdered in Celaya this year has risen to more than 21.
Almost simultaneously with the attack on the ex-police officers, another shooting was reported in Celaya, in which two men were killed on GaleĆ³n Street in the Calesa neighborhood. The attackers, who were on a motorcycle, also injured a woman present at the scene.
The attack occurred around 5:30 PM at Bar Michelitros, where the attackers opened fire on the ex-federal police officers who were off duty. Two of them died at the scene, and the third during their transfer to the hospital. A woman was injured during the incident, although it has not yet been specified whether she was a customer or an employee of the bar.
Following the events, security forces mobilized to secure the area and collect the necessary evidence for investigations. The escape of the attackers on motorcycles triggered a search operation. So far, local authorities in Celaya have not issued statements regarding this triple homicide. One of the victims lay on the sidewalk, while the other remained on the roadway.
