Famous Mexican 'grandma hitwoman' María Carlota Alfaro cannot be released on house arrest because authorities have failed to fit her with an electronic bracelet, despite a court order. 'Grandma Hitwoman' Remains in Jail Over Electronic Bracelet Delay in Mexico

A Mexican woman, known as the 'grandma hitwoman,' remains subject to a criminal process despite a change in her pretrial detention. Her defense has reported an unjustified delay in the placement of an electronic bracelet, a requirement for her to serve her house arrest sentence. In parallel, one of the individuals involved in the dispossession was sentenced to six years in prison, reinforcing the existence of the original conflict. María Carlota Alfaro Quintana, publicly known as the 'grandma hitwoman,' faces a new episode in her legal process after her defense denounced an unjustified delay in the placement of an electronic bracelet, an essential requirement for her to comply with her house arrest measure. According to a communiqué signed by her lawyer, Arturo Santana Alfaro, on March 17, 2026, a review hearing was held, derived from a federal amparo that granted her judicial protection. They accuse authorities of an 'inexplicable delay' in placing the electronic bracelet on Doña Carlota, even though a judge had already authorized her house arrest. They state that the responsible authority has failed to comply without justification, which has stalled her release from prison. According to the communiqué, this last condition already has technical progress, as the authorities have conducted home visits, communication tests, and logistical verifications. However, it accuses CEMECA of 'to this day not having been able or not wanting' to install the device 'without any justification,' which has prevented the accused's release. María Carlota's case dates back to a double homicide in Chalco, in the context of a dispute over the invasion of a property.
