The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has expressed her support for Mexican migrants affected by the measures taken by the president of the United States, Donald Trump. In light of the imposition of a 25% tariff on Mexican products and mass deportations, Sheinbaum called on fellow citizens to approach the consulates to be repatriated with the support of the Mexican government.
In response to this situation, the program 'Mexico embraces you' has been implemented to provide assistance to repatriated migrants. This program includes the issuance of Bienestar Paisano cards with a credit of 2,000 pesos to assist in the transportation of migrants to their homes or places of origin in Mexico.
Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of treating Mexican migrants with respect and dignity, recognizing their contribution in key sectors such as agriculture, construction, and domestic work. Additionally, 10 help centers have been established in the border states of the country to provide food, advice, and security services to returning migrants.
The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, warned of the negative impact that tariffs imposed by the United States would have on both nations, especially on products such as home appliances, automobiles, fruits, vegetables, technology, pork, and beer. For his part, Donald Trump acknowledged that this measure could affect American consumers, although he claimed not to be concerned about its impact on financial markets.
Amid these circumstances, Sheinbaum reiterated her commitment to support Mexican migrants and assured that in Mexico they will be treated with respect and dignity, offering them assistance and shelter in these difficult times.
