
In the State of Mexico, a municipal police officer from Chiconcuac was arrested on charges of theft against the municipal treasurer. The detention was carried out by agents of the Secretary of Security of the State of Mexico at the request of the director of Municipal Public Security.
The detained woman stated in her initial declarations that she received a phone call in which the municipal treasurer ordered her to break the lock on her office to take cash and bring it to Mexico City.
According to the commissioner, the detained officer was on duty and in charge of the security of the building on Matamoros Street, San Pedro neighborhood. When inspecting the building, the state agents found that the doors of the treasury offices had been broken into.
The woman, identified as María 'N', 46 years old, claimed to have received instructions from the municipal controller to steal money from the treasury's cash register after breaking the doors and putting the cash in a bag. She then took a taxi that took her to the Cuauhtémoc mayor's office in Mexico City, where she delivered the package to an individual before returning to the municipal palace in the same vehicle.
After her detention, María was taken before the Public Prosecutor's Office to determine her legal situation. In the State of Mexico, the crime of theft carries a penalty ranging from six months to two years in prison and a fine of fifty to one hundred days if the value of the stolen items does not exceed 30 times the daily value of the Measurement and Updating Unit, and from one to three years in prison plus a fine of one hundred to one hundred and fifty days if it exceeds that.
