A federal tribunal has ruled that the embezzlement case against Senator Javier Corral will be handled in federal jurisdiction. According to a statement by the law firm Schütte & Delsol, the First Collegiate Court on Criminal and Administrative Matters of the Seventeenth Circuit, based in Chihuahua, resolved the jurisdictional conflict and determined that the case must be handled by federal authorities. The decision comes after the defense requested the Attorney General's Office (FGR) to exercise its power of attraction, arguing that at the local level, the constitutional purposes of the criminal process and the rights of the parties were not guaranteed, as, according to the statement, defendants were not allowed to present evidence or arguments in Chihuahua. The FGR accepted the case and two district judges of the Federal Judiciary agreed that jurisdiction belonged to the federal level. It was also noted that the FGR is investigating alleged legal violations and human rights abuses committed by the Chihuahua State Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and other state officials in handling the case. "We are confident that they will establish the absolute innocence of Javier Corral in the face of the unjust accusations by the authorities of Chihuahua, and that this will also be the basis for unmasking the brutal fabrication of a crime against someone who led one of the country's greatest efforts against political corruption, as we have denounced to the FGR itself, which to this day investigates the multiple legal violations and human rights abuses committed by the State of Chihuahua's Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and other state officials." After several hours of hearings, arguments, and evidence, the Chihuahua State Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the local control judge were ordered to relinquish the case and remand the files. The defense stated that they are confident that the federal analysis will demonstrate Javier Corral's innocence and that the accusations against him are part of a political persecution.
