Chiapas Authorities Dismantle Organized Crime Roadblocks

Authorities in Chiapas dismantled organized crime checkpoints in the Sierra Madre of Chiapas, controlled by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and Sinaloa Cartel (CDS), since 2021. The state governor, Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, reported the detention of 87 police officers.

"We are destroying all the filters that crime had in the Sierra Madre of Chiapas, the roads are free of clandestine checkpoints, and we are ensuring free transit throughout the region," said Ramírez Aguilar. One of those detained was responsible for extorting merchants, transporters, and ranchers.

The town of Cintalapa has been severely affected by violence, with a high number of missing and murdered people. The operations are part of the new Chiapas Government's actions against organized crime in an effort to restore peace and security in the region.

In a message on social media, Ramírez Aguilar declared: "We will not take a step back, firmly enforcing the law." During the morning of that Friday, hundreds of State Police, Mexican Army, and National Guard agents carried out an operation in Chiapa de Corzo, where municipal police and officials were detained.

In Chiapa de Corzo, 66 municipal police officers were detained, including the director, as well as 20 municipal traffic officers. 16 firearms were seized, including 12 long guns and 4 handguns, after executing a search warrant and presentation.

The head of the People's Security Secretariat (SSP), Óscar Alberto Aparicio, reported operations in Villaflores, Cintalapa, and Frontera Comalapa, where several suspected criminals were arrested, confiscating weapons, drugs, vehicles, motorcycles, and cash.

In Frontera Comalapa, Ariana del Rosario 'N', 39 years old, Elmer Escobar 'N', and Diego Manuel 'N' were detained, and a shotgun and six cartridges were seized from them. In Villaflores, two suspected criminals from the Chiapas Cartel, a CJNG cell, were detained, confiscating weapons, vehicles, and cash obtained through extortion.

Additionally, in Cintalapa, five individuals were arrested, in possession of firearms, armored vehicles, motorcycles, and tactical gear.
