New Shelters for Migrants in Ciudad Juárez

Secretary Ariadna Montiel Reyes has taken on the responsibility of supervising three shelters on the northern border of Mexico. These shelters are located in Tijuana, Ciudad Juárez, and Matamoros. According to operators from the Secretariat of Wellbeing, Montiel Reyes plans to stay in the region for a while, alternating between Baja California, Chihuahua, and Tamaulipas, similar to her experience in Acapulco after Hurricane Otis.

Montiel Reyes stated that the work on the northern border will be three times larger than that performed in Acapulco. It is expected to provide accommodation, food, medical care, education, and psychological support to migrants during their stay in the shelters. To fulfill these tasks, there will be 50 national staff members at each of the shelters.

Although there are doubts about whether other heads of federal agencies will follow Montiel Reyes's example, the importance of humanitarian work on the northern border is emphasized. Meanwhile, the Secretary of Government assured that the efforts are not related to the immigration policies implemented by the previous administration in the United States.

Despite changes in the Mexican federal administration, such as the upcoming replacement of Francisco Garduño by Sergio Salomón Céspedes at the National Institute of Migration, the importance of ensuring migrants' access to wellbeing programs and health services is emphasized.
