Authorities have captured Humberto Rivera Rivera, alias 'El Viejón', alleged leader of the Sinaloa Cartel in Ciudad Juárez. His detention took place on the streets of the city and he was a priority target of the FBI.

Humberto Rivera Rivera, known as 'El Viejón', was arrested in Ciudad Juárez, accused of being the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel in the Juárez Valley Region. During the arrest, authorities seized a false identification and drug packages in possession of the alleged leader.

'At the time of his detention, various identifications were found that bore the different name of 'Victor Cruz', in addition to carrying two transparent packets with a granular white substance characteristic of cocaine,' reported the Chihuahua Prosecutor's Office.

Rivera Rivera, also known as 'El Don' and wanted by the FBI in the United States, was captured on the streets Fray Junípero Serra and Avenida Valle de Juárez. He was subsequently placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office to continue with the corresponding process.

The detainee, 51 years of age, was considered one of the top leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel and operated in the Juárez Valley, Jalisco. Known by several aliases such as 'El Chato' and 'El Viejón', Rivera Rivera was the right-hand man of Gabino S. V., also known as 'El Ingeniero', who was shot dead by Federal Forces in September 2015.

The capture of 'El Viejón' took place during the night of Thursday, February 13, by elements of the National Guard and investigation police officers belonging to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Strategic Operations. The Attorney General's Office of the State of Chihuahua confirmed the arrest of one of the FBI's priority targets in a successful operation.
