Agents from the Strategic Operations Prosecutor's Office of the Chihuahua Prosecutor's Office carried out the arrest of an individual linked to the supply of weapons used in the attack against Omar García Harfuch, then Secretary of Citizen Security of Mexico City on June 26, 2020. The detainee, identified as Roland Alberto Muñoz and/or Román Alberto Muñoz Reza, was arrested in an operation in collaboration with elements of the National Guard and the Secretary of National Defense.
The accused, born in Dallas, Texas, 41 years old, was wanted by authorities in the United States for his alleged involvement in the trafficking and smuggling of firearms. He is directly related to the sale of the weapons used in the attempted murder of García Harfuch, as well as other criminal activities, such as the sale of weapons in the homicide of a Migration agent in 2022 and in an incident where two ministerial agents lost their lives in Chihuahua.
Through meticulous intelligence work, the authorities located the individual in Ciudad Juárez, from where he was transferred to the border to be handed over to U.S. authorities at the Stanton international bridge, which connects Ciudad Juárez with El Paso, Texas. The capture occurred on a stretch of the Chihuahua-Cuauhtémoc highway, near a motel called "Houston," where the accused identified himself with an ID in the name of "Román Alberto Muñoz Reza."
Ongoing investigations indicate that Muñoz Reza is the main supplier of firearms for criminal groups operating in Chihuahua. The Chihuahua prosecutor's office highlighted that the capture of the individual is the result of a commitment to inter-institutional collaboration with federal forces and close coordination with U.S. authorities in the fight against organized crime.
