On Saturday in Mexico, a car bomb explosion left preliminary reports of two dead and at least seven injured. The attack targeted the facilities of the Community Police in the municipality of Coahuayana, Michoacán state. The explosion occurred at approximately 12:00 local time on Allende Street, less than a hundred meters from the municipal palace. The blast caused severe damage to at least ten buildings, several with commercial premises, as well as to a dozen vehicles parked in the area. The State Attorney General's Office has launched an investigation to determine whether the deceased or injured are civilians or members of the Community Police, which performs public security functions but lacks official recognition from the Government of Michoacán.
It should be noted that since November 10, security has been reinforced in Michoacán following the murder of Uruapan mayor Carlos Manzo. Since then, 165 people have been arrested and 68 firearms, 7,409 cartridges, 375 magazines, 145 vehicles, 90 explosive devices, 53 kilograms of explosive material, 28 kilograms of marijuana, 426 kilograms of methamphetamine, 28,000 liters and 7,300 kilograms of chemical substances for the manufacture of synthetic drugs have been seized, and 10 camps have been disabled.
