On the night of this Thursday, Rosalinda González Valencia, known as "La Jefa", was released from the Federal Center for Social Rehabilitation (CEFERESO) number 16 in the state of Morelos after serving more than half of her sentence. The decision for her release was made through the benefit of pre-release, demonstrating good behavior and meeting the legal requirements.
González Valencia, wife of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias "El Mencho", leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), was sentenced in December 2023 to 5 years in prison for crimes related to operations with illicit proceeds. Federal Judge Perla Fabiola Ayala ruled on January 30, 2025, that the sentence met the requirements for pre-release, having served more than half of her sentence according to the Law of Minimum Standards for Social Rehabilitation of Sentenced Persons.
However, despite meeting the legal requirements, the release process was delayed due to an appeal filed by the Public Ministry requesting more time to appeal. González Valencia's defense, led by Víctor Francisco Beltrán, filed a complaint to expedite the release process.
Rosalinda González was initially arrested in May 2018 in Jalisco under accusations of handling the financial resources of the CJNG. Although she faced charges of money laundering, she managed to be released on bail of 1.5 million pesos. In November 2021, she was arrested again by the National Army and the Attorney General's Office, remaining in custody until her recent release.
