Former Mayor of Colón Detained for Corruption

The former municipal president of Colón, Alejandro Ochoa, has faced various legal situations in recent years. Ochoa served as the municipal president of Colón twice with the PAN and was involved in a trial that ended with a conviction for facilitating the sale of land below its real value to a developer. Later, in August 2020, he was arrested by the State Attorney General accused of harming the treasury.

After being sentenced to 4 years and 9 months in prison for influence peddling, he was released in June 2021 as a precautionary measure at the end of his term as municipal president. His defense has sought to obtain a conditional suspension of the sentence through the payment of an additional financial amount for the damage imposed by the court.

Despite the legal process he is undergoing, in 2022 Ochoa switched political parties to Morena, claiming a supposed political persecution. This change in affiliation came after alleged debts of prominent PAN members regarding municipal taxes and the Querétaro International Airport were pointed out.

In September 2023, the former 42-year-old mayor was detained again for alleged acts of corruption during his administration between 2015 and 2020. He is currently under precautionary measures released while his lawyers present an appeal to challenge the legal proceedings against him.
