
A confrontation between military personnel and an armed group took place at the entrance of the syndicate of Costa Rica, Sinaloa, leaving three civilians dead and several injured, in a population of approximately 30 thousand inhabitants. The state police recovered an abandoned Toyota Hilux pickup truck with blankets inside near the bus station.
Costa Rica, located 30 kilometers south of the Culiacán valley, has been territory dominated by drug traffickers, initially linked to Dámaso López Núñez "El Licenciado" and Ismael "Mayo" Zambada García. For the past six months, multiple confrontations have been reported in this area surrounded by important communication routes.
The armed forces coordinated to control the situation and results were announced by the Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch. He highlighted that, in Sinaloa, from October 2024 to February 2025, 899 arrests have been made and large quantities of drugs, weapons, and drug laboratories have been seized.
Nationally, in the same period mentioned, more than 13 thousand people have been arrested for high-impact crimes, seized firearms, drugs, and dismantled clandestine laboratories, dealing a strong blow to organized crime.
The confrontation in Costa Rica resulted in three civilians dead and a number of injured. The population was paralyzed during the operation in which the Army and the National Guard participated. Morning school classes were suspended as a safety measure.
The shooting began in the early morning in a nearby ejido and extended through the streets of the locality, causing panic among the inhabitants heading to their work and school activities. A Chevrolet pickup truck with multiple bullet impacts ended up embedded in a hardware store at the end of the confrontation.
