Assassination of Municipal Candidate in Veracruz

Germán Anuar Valencia, a municipal presidential candidate in Coxquihui, Veracruz, was shot dead shortly after the election campaign began. The attack occurred in El Arenal, where he was set to start his campaign. Valencia was critically injured and later died in hospital, prompting widespread condemnation from political leaders.

Germán Anuar Valencia, candidate for the municipal presidency of Coxquihui, Veracruz, was shot and killed hours after the start of the electoral campaigns in the state. The politician was attacked in the community of El Arenal, near Comalteco, while preparing to start his campaign. A group of armed men arrived and opened fire, seriously injuring Valencia, who was hit by at least five bullets. He was transferred to the Hospital del Totonacapan in Entabladero, where he unfortunately passed away.

At least three more people were injured in the attack on the candidate and were also taken to the hospital for medical attention. The national leader of Morena, Luisa María Alcalde Luján, lamented and condemned the murder of Germán Anuar Valencia, candidate of Morena and PVEM for the municipal presidency of Coxquihui, Veracruz. She confirmed that the government of Veracruz and the local Prosecutor's Office are already investigating the incident.

"We lament and condemn the murder of Germán Anuar Valencia. The government of Veracruz and the Prosecutor's Office of Veracruz are already investigating this unfortunate event," Alcalde Luján expressed. The news of the murder has generated shock in the political community and society at large, once again highlighting the violence affecting various sectors in the country.

According to the media outlet Vanguardia Veracruz, Germán Anuar Valencia had made his last post before the fateful event. The tragedy has reminded us of the vulnerability many political candidates and activists face in Mexico, where violence has claimed the lives of several leaders in different regions.
