On Saturday, the mayor of Cuauhtémoc, Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, presented her first annual government report with a strong emphasis on security and citizen participation, through a video message from the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
"A year ago, we took on this great challenge that the citizens entrusted to us, and we returned the power to where it should have always been: in the hands of the people," declared the mayor from the stage, where she added: "We came to govern to prove that anger can also build, that conscience and courage can also govern, and that a good government can be marked by feeling and without fear."
During her nearly hour-long speech, the mayor of Cuauhtémoc maintained a strong emphasis on security by highlighting some of her achievements, such as the installation of 51,000 new or rehabilitated streetlights, the deepening of the fight against extortion, the purchase of 53 new patrol cars for the local police, the total reconnection of the surveillance camera network, and the recovery of over 30,000 square meters of public space.
"We listen to our neighbors, and that is how today we fulfill a year of government, hand in hand with you," she said. "We are not going to let go of the streets, nor the voice, nor the hope," promised the mayor, who presented a video from the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, with whom she met in Spain a few months ago.
"One can govern without stealing, and there is another way to do politics," she declared.
This Saturday, at the Frontón México Centro de Entretenimiento, the mayor was accompanied by various figures from the opposition.
"Before, criminals governed from within, but that has ended," she added.
"What we have achieved is not a coincidence; it is the consequence of a criminal decision. We have many challenges, but we will face them in the streets without pause, with a people that cannot be extinguished. We advance as a team, we do not cross our arms, we do not accept excuses, and we always find a way to do it and we fulfill it," Rojo de la Vega elaborated and completed: "Here we are, standing tall, delivering real results with the pride of knowing that Cuauhtémoc is beating stronger than ever."
Additionally, Rojo de la Vega began her event by asking for a minute of silence for the memory of Carlos Manzo.
"We defeated the corrupt system that believed Cuauhtémoc was going to surrender. Among them, her peers from Mexico City, such as mayors Giovani Gutiérrez, Mauricio Tabe, and Carlos Orvañanos, and from Monterrey, Adrián de la Garza Santos; the national president of the PAN, Jorge Romero; the PAN coordinator in the Palace of Donceles, Andrés Atayde; and the former mayor of Álvaro Obregón, Lía Limon.
"We govern for everyone. Day by day, it is the people who guide each of our steps. From the European capital, the leader of the People's Party reiterated her full support and endorsement throughout her tenure. "We make decisions based on data, not on whims."
