A tragic accident involving a passenger bus and a truck in Cuencamé has resulted in multiple fatalities. Official reports are ongoing as families receive support from local authorities.


Tragic Bus Accident in Cuencamé Claims Lives

In the municipality of Cuencamé, at kilometer 193 + 200 of the Gómez Palacio-Durango highway, a tragic accident occurred in the early morning. A passenger bus collided head-on with a tractor trailer in the town of Velardeña, resulting in fatalities and injuries. The exact number of victims has not yet been confirmed, but preliminary reports indicate at least 12 people dead and 15 injured.

Civil Protection and Firefighters from Lerdo reported that there were 24 people traveling in the transport unit. Of them, only 10 managed to escape on their own, 6 were taken to Durango, and 4 received attention from paramedics and were taken to Cuencamé. Sadly, 14 people did not manage to escape and lost their lives in the accident.

The removal of the deceased bodies was handled by the Forensic Medical Service. The Durango prosecutor, Sonia de la Garza, urged not to speculate on the number of deceased and asked to respect the families' grief. She emphasized the importance of waiting for official information and disregarding false lists circulating on social media with the names of supposed victims.

The vice prosecutor of Investigation and Litigation, Gerardo Salazar Mejorado, reported that it was a head-on collision between a passenger bus from a tourist company and a cargo tractor trailer. The injured were taken to local hospitals for medical attention. So far, the exact number of fatalities cannot be confirmed, and identification of the victims is ongoing.

The governor of Durango, Esteban Villegas, expressed deep sorrow over the accident and assured that the government is providing support to the affected families. "We are in contact with the relatives and offering them all the necessary support in this difficult time," the governor stated.
