A federal judge ordered the immediate release of Rosalinda González Valencia, known as 'La Jefa', the wife of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, 'El Mencho', leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). Perla Fabiola Ayala Estrada, a federal control judge based in Cuernavaca, Morelos, determined that González Valencia had already served more than half of her sentence and, due to her good behavior, could benefit from the Minimum Standards Law on Social Rehabilitation of Sentenced Individuals.
With this decision, made during a recent hearing, it is expected that González Valencia will soon leave the women's prison in Morelos and will only have to report to sign every month. González Valencia's defense plans to file a legal action against the sentence to resolve this case and 'clear her name'.
In December 2023, Rosalinda González was sentenced to five years in prison for her involvement in the crime of operations with illicitly obtained resources. After failing to comply with the precautionary measures imposed in November 2021, she was re-arrested in Zapopan, Jalisco, for money laundering.
In November, Rosalinda González's defense achieved a successful appeal and she was exonerated from the charge of organized crime. This news highlights the 'legal battles' won by the wife of 'El Mencho'.
The 'Jefa' also had an active role within the CJNG and was involved in the trafficking of synthetic drugs to the United States.
Following the arrest of 'El Menchito' in 2015, a crackdown on the cartel leader's family began. Rubén Oseguera, accused of being second-in-command of the CJNG, was extradited to the United States five years after his arrest. His sister, Jessica Oseguera, alias 'La Negra', was arrested in the U.S., but after three years obtained her freedom.
After the release of Rosalinda González, her daughter Laisha and her husband, Nemesio Oseguera, are being sought by authorities, while the United States is pursuing the drug lord with a reward of up to 15 million dollars for information that may lead to his capture.
