New Attorney General Appointed in Morelos

The Congress of Morelos appointed Edgar Antonio Maldonado Ceballos as the state's attorney general with 20 votes in favor. Maldonado Ceballos previously held the position of legal advisor to the Government of the State of Morelos. After the vote, a legislative commission accompanied him to the venue, where he took an oath.

The appointment of Maldonado Ceballos comes amid a request for trial proceedings against federal deputy Cuauhtémoc Blanco Bravo for attempted rape against his half-sister, Fabiola 'N'. In another event, prosecutor Uriel Carmona Gándara was removed with 16 votes in favor, a decision made in response to the request of Governor Margarita González, arguing that Carmona Gándara did not meet the requirements to hold the position due to irregularities in the investigation of the femicide of Ariadna Fernanda.

The prosecutor faces legal proceedings for the femicide of Ariadna Fernanda, a young woman who disappeared in Mexico City and was found dead on the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway. Following the removal request, an ordinary session was held in which the list presented by the governor was discussed and voted on, resulting in the appointment of Maldonado Ceballos as the state's attorney general. He is accused of delaying and concealing information in the case, thus justifying the consideration of his nomination as appropriate.
