The attorney general of the state of Morelos, Uriel Carmona, was removed by the Congress of the entity after he presented a request for impeachment against Cuauhtémoc Blanco, a federal deputy and former governor of the state, accused of attempted rape. Carmona Gándara stated that he will defend himself according to the laws since he believes there is no serious cause that justifies his removal.
On her part, the governor of Morelos, Margarita González Saravia, affirmed that Carmona's dismissal was not motivated by political vengeance, but by the investigation files against him and his lack of willingness to collaborate with government institutions at both the federal and state levels.
Uriel Carmona has had conflicts with Morenista governments on various occasions, such as with Claudia Sheinbaum, the current president of Mexico, during her tenure as head of government of Mexico City. The attorney has been accused of obstruction of justice on several occasions.
In September 2023, a judge ordered preventive detention against Carmona due to accusations from the Attorney General's Office of Mexico City. Despite having immunity, he was detained and spent 80 days in prison before federal courts granted him freedom. He is accused of allegedly hindering the investigation of the femicide of Ariadna Fernanda and is even accused of issuing false and malicious statements in the case.
In another incident, in October 2023, Claudia Sheinbaum reported receiving threats from Uriel Carmona, implicating him in the alleged cover-up of the femicide of Ariadna Fernanda. Sheinbaum emphasized that Carmona returned to his position despite the complaints against him initiated by prosecutor Ernestina Godoy, stating that he "clearly hid a femicide."
