The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, referred to a specific case without mentioning the name to avoid re-victimization. It is about a young woman reported missing in Mexico City whose body was found in Morelos. The prosecutor of Morelos initially indicated that the death was due to asphyxiation, but after intervention by the Mexico City Attorney General's Office, it was determined that it was a femicide.
In another context, it was reported that the Attorney General of Morelos, Uriel Carmona, was removed from his position by 16 of the 20 local Congress deputies. Carmona faces legal proceedings for obstruction of justice, cover-up, and torture, mainly related to the femicide case of the young Ariadna Fernanda.
In a press conference at the National Palace, Claudia Sheinbaum praised the decision of the Morelos Congress to remove Carmona, highlighting that during his tenure there were attempts to conceal femicide cases as suicides. At the same time, Carmona submitted a petition for immunity removal against Deputy Cuauhtémoc Blanco, who faces accusations of attempted rape from his half-sister.
Uriel Carmona denied that the proceedings against him were political and declared that he would not request a leave of absence as a federal deputy while the investigation against him is ongoing. He expressed his desire for the judicial process to reach its ultimate consequences.
