Last week in Culiacán, Sinaloa, an operation took place during which José Ángel Canobbio Inzunza, "El Guerito", and Kevin Alonso Gil, "El 200", were arrested. However, Ivan Archivaldo Guzman Salazar, leader of the faction "Los Chapitos" of the Sinaloa Cartel, managed to escape through a tunnel in a house in the Tierra Blanca neighborhood, despite the efforts of security personnel.
Agents from the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO) of the Attorney General's Office (FGR) conducted a search last weekend where they discovered a tunnel over 700 meters long. Although authorities have not officially confirmed this version, it is rumored that during the operation, Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán's son was injured and allegedly used the tunnel to evade justice, following in his father's footsteps in the past.
According to a video released by the Sinaloan newspaper Adiscusión Diario, Iván Archivaldo escaped along with his bodyguard and right-hand man, Eric Bastidas "El 09", through a tunnel connected to a house in the Tierra Blanca neighborhood, north of Culiacán. Journalist José Luis Montenegro reported that during the operation Óscar Noé Medina González, known as 'El Panu', one of Guzmán brothers' closest collaborators, was captured.
Federal intelligence sources revealed that the information to locate the leader of Los Chapitos came from Jorge Humberto Figueroa Benítez, alias La Perris or El 27, an important security chief of the group. This operation could be related to a possible negotiation with Ismael Zambada Sicairos, known as El Mayito Flaco, son of Ismael El Mayo Zambada, to take control of a strategic territory following the fall of El Chapito and consolidate their position in the organization.
