Culiacán Faces Economic Crisis Amid Violence

The honorary president of the Mar de Cortés Forum expressed his concern about the situation in Culiacán, as the city has been empty since 7 pm for two months, which is leading to the bankruptcy of various local businesses. Restaurants, bars, pharmacies, transportation, and entertainment are mentioned as some of the affected sectors. The Sinaloan businessman highlights that violence and impunity in the city have reached intolerable levels, which is having a profound impact on the state.

It is noted that the emergency that Culiacán is experiencing reflects the abandonment by various levels of government, which have failed to effectively confront crime or professionally pursue offenses. Given this situation, questions are raised about the outlook for the city. However, the business leader shows optimism considering that the cities in the Mar de Cortés Region could have a better future if appropriate measures are taken.

The honorary president of the forum highlights the importance of citizen participation in overcoming current challenges such as violence, poverty, and environmental damage. It is emphasized that, despite adversities, it is possible to work towards a better future, but a joint commitment from all involved is necessary.

Agustín Coppel Luken, a businessman from the region, mentions that it is essential to recognize each individual's responsibility in building a peaceful and prosperous environment. The need for collaboration to design and construct a common future is highlighted, taking responsibility for the decisions and actions that are made.

The businessman invites the participants of the Summit 2024 to reflect, dialogue, and collaborate in the design of the cities. He thanks those present for their example of citizenship and calls for action to achieve sustainable and prosperous development in the region.

It is mentioned that violence in Culiacán has resulted in loss of life, disappearances, thefts, assaults, extortions, and roadblocks. Agustín Coppel Luken laments the authorities' failure to effectively address this situation, describing it as a major governmental failure at all levels. The situation is considered a wake-up call to improve and fulfill primary responsibilities.
