In Sinaloa, a chase culminated in a gunfight between Army personnel and an armed group. This violent incident resulted in two military personnel dead and five criminals killed. Additionally, two people were detained and, unfortunately, there were also civilian casualties at the scene.
According to reports, during the pursuit, a military unit went off the asphalt strip at the curve of the tree on the Culiacán-Eldorado highway. Rescuers attended to a couple, Javier and Geovana, both 34 years old, and their son Iván, who is one year and seven months old, who were urgently transported to a hospital in Culiacán. Fortunately, it was reported that they were out of danger that night, with the child having a bullet wound on his cheek, the mother with a gunshot wound in her arm, and the father with an injury to his leg.
The family was returning from their work as day laborers at the Agricultural Field Paralelo 38 in the Costa Rica district when the confrontation broke out. Other day laborers in the area ran to board a passenger truck and were injured by bullets while getting into the vehicle.
These events occurred on Thursday, January 30, in the vicinity of Campo Victoria, belonging to the Costa Rica district, 35 kilometers south of Culiacán. A helicopter from the armed forces came to assist and transported the fallen military personnel and some injured civilians.
In the operation, two infantry soldiers lost their lives and three were seriously injured. The military managed to secure a vehicle, long weapons, magazines, and useful cartridges from the armed group. Additionally, two deceased civilians were found in an overturned truck in the area.
As Red Cross ambulances arrived at the scene, it was confirmed that a family was injured by bullets during the exchange of gunfire. This tragic incident highlights the violence plaguing the Sinaloa region and the bravery of the armed forces in facing these unfortunate situations.
