The body of the journalist from Sonora, Jesús Alberto Camacho Rodríguez, who had been missing for five years, was located at the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) in Culiacán, Sinaloa. The discovery occurred after the Attorney General's Office of the State (FGE) of Sinaloa published a list of unidentified deceased persons. The Attorney General's Office of Sonora requested help from the Collectivo Madres Buscadoras to spread the names of ten unclaimed bodies on social media.
"Among the bodies shared was that of journalist Jesús Alberto Camacho Rodríguez, whose remains had entered the Semefo in Culiacán on October 28, 2021," said Ceci Flores, leader of the collective. Camacho Rodríguez's corpse was found in a drainage canal between Boulevard Pedro Infante and Calle del Olmo in Culiacán, and his identification was made possible thanks to distinguishing features following the recent dissemination of the case.
The FGE of Sinaloa identified nine other unclaimed deceased individuals, and then released an additional list of 83 unidentified deceased persons. Jesús Alberto Camacho Rodríguez, originally from Hermosillo, had a distinguished career in Ciudad Obregón and Cajeme, collaborating with media such as El Imparcial, El Regional de Sonora, Extra de la Tarde, and Tribuna del Yaqui.
The disappearance and subsequent discovery of Camacho Rodríguez reignite concerns about violence against journalists in Mexico, a sector constantly exposed to risks in the exercise of their profession.
