Edwin Antonio N., also known as 'El Max' or 'El Oso', was linked to a process by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (Femdo) of the Attorney General's Office (FGR). He is accused of crimes against health and possession of exclusive-use firearms of the Army. A Specialized District Judge in the Accusatory Criminal System in the State of Mexico issued the corresponding linkage. 'El Max' was detained on October 21 in Culiacán, Sinaloa, during a confrontation with elements of the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena).
In the first hearing, the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) presented evidence that led the judge to issue the precautionary measure of justified preventive imprisonment in the federal prison of 'Altiplano'. He was granted four months for the complementary investigation. He is charged with possession with intent to sell fentanyl, possession of firearms, and cartridges exclusive to the Armed Forces.
It is noteworthy that 'El Max' is considered one of the most violent operators of the Sinaloa Cartel and is attributed with several homicides. He is also linked to the criminal cell Los Uriarte in Tijuana. In 2021, he had filed for an amparo to avoid his detention, but he was eventually arrested by Sedena. His capture is perceived as a severe blow to the criminal organization, as he was a key operator in its structure and a priority target for Mexican authorities.
