On the occasion of International Women's Day, commemorated every March 8, various marches and activities have been organized throughout Mexico. Feminist groups, collectives, diverse women, and non-governmental organizations have planned events in several states for that day.
In Durango, a march is scheduled to take place at Hotel Gobernador at 5:00 PM. Meanwhile, Equalita MX has called for a contingent in Toluca, and in Puebla, the meeting point is at the Glorieta de Pancho Villa towards the Plaza del Ángel. Events have also been scheduled in Chihuahua, Ciudad Juárez, and León to commemorate the date.
In Guerrero, the OVM group has shared calls for Acapulco, Chilpancingo, Iguala, and Tlapa. In Chilpancingo, women will gather at Alameda Granados Maldonado at 3:30 PM, among other meeting points in different municipalities. In Hidalgo, a group of mothers has called for a demonstration in Pachuca.
The March 8 march will extend to different states such as Sinaloa, Sonora, Baja California Sur, Yucatán, Nuevo León, Campeche, Mexico City, Oaxaca, Puebla, Tabasco, Jalisco, Guanajuato, Colima, Tamaulipas, Quintana Roo, Querétaro, and Veracruz, among others. Each call is unique, with different meeting points and specific slogans.
Amid this national call, the initiatives of various feminist collectives aim to bring visibility to various issues such as gender-based violence, precarious labor, the criminalization of abortion, and the situation in Palestine. Furthermore, the participation of women of all ages, as well as dissidents, is promoted in a non-partisan and peaceful environment.
Each march and scheduled activity seeks to reflect the diversity and unity of the feminist movement in Mexico, aiming to highlight the demands and struggles of women in the country. The call to participate in these demonstrations invites reflection and action to achieve a more equal and just society for all.
