Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of the Government of Mexico, announced the detention of Leonel 'N' in Los Ángeles, Durango. This detention was made possible thanks to information provided by the National Intelligence Center along with the Security Cabinet.
The detention of Leonel 'N' is part of the efforts of the Mexican government, headed by President Claudia Sheinbaum, to curb drug trafficking and undocumented persons, especially in light of the pressure generated by the imposition of tariffs of 25% by U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to Harfuch, Leonel 'N' was wanted by Mexican and U.S. authorities for his involvement in drug trafficking and undocumented persons. Despite the efforts made by Mexico in this regard, Trump decided that the tariffs would go into effect on March 4, stating that Mexico had delivered 29 drug traffickers to the United States, thanks to the imposition of these tariffs.
The Mexican official detailed that from October 2024 to date, more than one ton and one million 324,924 fentanyl pills have been seized, dismantling 329 clandestine laboratories and affecting organized crime by 300 billion pesos. Additionally, in the 'Northern Border Operation,' 53.9 kilos of fentanyl were secured, 746 people were arrested, and firearms were seized.
Leonel 'N' is identified as the leader of a criminal cell operating in northern Mexico. Furthermore, he has an arrest warrant for aggravated kidnapping and appears on the list of the most wanted criminals in Texas and Chihuahua.
