US Naval Presence Near Ensenada Raised Concerns

The Secretary of the Navy dismissed that the presence of U.S. vessels near the coasts of Ensenada, Baja California, is related to the pause in imposing tariffs on Mexican products, as insisted on for a long time by the president of that country, Donald Trump, or with any military task on Mexican soil.

"Some media report the presence of U.S. ships near the coast of Baja California. The Secretary of the Navy clarifies that they are in an area where there is free international navigation. In other occasions, this presence has occurred," the Semar published on social networks.

Throughout the day, the presence of three military vessels from the United States was reported about 32 nautical miles, equivalent to 60 kilometers, off the coast of Ensenada. One of the vessels is the Us GoV Vessel, used for military operations.

The Secretary of the Navy clarified that these vessels are in a free international navigation zone and are not related to tariff issues or military tasks on Mexican soil. Additionally, it was reported that the third vessel is located near the other two, although the details of the ship cannot be reviewed on the specialized portal Marine Traffic.

In previous days, the Mexican government denied a U.S. military plane the use of Mexican airspace to reach Guatemala, claiming that there was no official request regarding this matter. According to established protocols, the Secretary of the Interior stated that they maintain constant communication with U.S. authorities and that so far they have not received any request regarding this.

As part of the commitments agreed between the governments of the United States and Mexico, the deployment of 10,000 elements of the National Guard was implemented to reinforce surveillance at the northern border and prevent drug trafficking, particularly fentanyl. Meanwhile, it was agreed to work together to prevent the trafficking of weapons into Mexican territory, which strengthen organized crime groups with their firepower. In this sense, it is highlighted that both nations seek to cooperate to address these issues jointly.
