Critical Week for Civil Protection in Nuevo León

During the week of March 3 to 9, Civil Protection of Nuevo León and firefighters faced a critical situation due to winds, high temperatures, and human factors, resulting in a total of 917 fires in the entity, an unprecedented figure in the state.

The fires were distributed as follows each day of the week: 66 on Monday, 294 on Tuesday, 182 on Wednesday, 125 on Thursday, 80 on Friday, 100 on Saturday, and 70 on Sunday, totaling 917 incidents. The most complicated day was Tuesday, with nearly 300 fires.

One of the most intense incidents occurred in the municipality of García, where the flames spread from a grassland to reach a company, this was when Governor Samuel García arrived on site to oversee firefighting efforts. On Monday, the day with the fewest fires, 66 incidents were reported; however, one of the challenges was to control the fire on Cerro del Topo Chico due to the terrain conditions.

After three days of hard work, Civil Protection reported that they finally managed to control the fire on Cerro del Fraile during the night of Monday, being one of the last hotspots they had to deal with. "Civil Protection Nuevo León reports that after three days of operations, they have achieved 100% control of the fire on Cerro del Fraile," they emphasized.

To face this situation, 30 personnel and a helicopter participated, working in critical points to extinguish the fires. Monitoring will continue in the area for at least 48 more hours by the municipality of El Carmen, with the aim of preventing potential reactivations. The affected area totaled 10 hectares, and multiple entities participated in the control and extinguishing efforts, including Civil Protection Nuevo León, Civil Protection El Carmen, Conafor, Crum, and Proxpol.
