
Last night, in the atrium of Guadalajara Cathedral, a suspected car thief who was fleeing in a black truck ran over 16 people. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but several people were injured. Among the victims are:
- Rita Resendi, 65 years old, who suffered a fracture. - Barbie Rojas, 14 years old, with multiple abrasions and a head injury. - Antonio Martínez, 52 years old, with multiple contusions. - María Hernández, 70 years old, with multiple contusions. - María De las Nieves, 48 years old, with injuries, although a fracture in the kneecap was ruled out. - Juan Carlos Enrique, 62 years old, with lower back pain. - Delia Estrada, 67 years old, with a fracture. - Aidé Ramos, 18 years old, with multiple abrasions and contusions. - Eduardo Álvarez, 20 years old, with burns and contusions. - Guadalupe Arellano, 29 years old, with a sprain. - Cecilia Vargas, 62 years old, with a fracture. - Pilar Hernández, 30 years old, with injuries and an anxiety attack.
In total, 14 of the injured people have already been discharged and two remain hospitalized, while the alleged perpetrator of the incident has been detained.
The Archdiocese of Guadalajara deeply lamented the incident, as the fourth celebration in favor of women and life backed by various pro-life groups was taking place at the time of the accident.
In an official statement, the Archdiocese expressed its desire for the authorities to clarify the facts and that justice is served in the compensation for both material and personal damages caused by the accident.
A swift recovery is hoped for the injured individuals and a chain of prayer for their well-being has been requested.
