Death of Notorious CJNG Leader in Jail

The Secretary of Security of Jalisco confirmed the death of Juan Francisco Aguilar Santana, known as Juan Pistolas, from natural causes. This individual, imprisoned since 2018, was considered part of the inner circle of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). He was attributed with the distribution of drugs and weapons, as well as being a trainer of hitmen. His death was the result of a cardiac arrest, apparently caused by low blood sugar levels, according to the report from the state agency.

Juan Francisco was under the custody of a federal court for crimes such as possession of arms, possession of exclusive-use cartridges of the Army, and crimes against health. The staff of the penitentiary center reported that he was experiencing discomfort in his cell, where he was not responding to verbal stimuli. Due to a history of diabetes, a protocol for transfer to emergency services was activated. The on-duty doctor certified his death and confirmed the absence of signs of violence after notifying a Public Prosecutor's agent.

According to his file, Juan Pistolas was recruited as a hitman and is identified as one of the founders of CJNG. He later became the chief of hitmen, recruiter, and trainer of young people. His background includes previous arrests, particularly in 2010 for various crimes related to weapons, drugs, and organized crime. He regained his freedom in 2017 but was arrested again in 2018 for coordinating the distribution of drugs and weapons for the criminal organization.

He was accused of collaborating directly with Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho', leader of the criminal group, and was charged with organized crime, arms trafficking, narcotics, and bribery. At the time of his last arrest, weapons and various types of synthetic drugs were seized from him. Juan Francisco Aguilar Santana operated tactical training camps to maintain control in strategic areas of Jalisco.
