President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo addressed again in Thursday's morning conference the findings of extermination sites in Jalisco, mainly the one located in Teuchitlán. In response to accusations from activists and search collectives against Enrique Alfaro, former governor of the state, for what they consider a lack of action concerning such sites so close to the capital, Guadalajara, the leader emphasized that, based on the expert reports, 'responsibilities must be clarified,' but this should be done 'based on the investigation.'

In addition to the above, she stated that it is essential to understand what was found on the property and how such a situation could have occurred, all after carrying out the corresponding expert evaluations.

In detail, she confirmed that during her meeting with the security cabinet, they informed her that in September 2024, there was an operation at the same Teuchitlán property, which was secured by the Jalisco State Attorney's Office. It would be necessary to see exactly what happened with the state Attorney's Office in the safeguarding.

Nevertheless, she emphasized that this does not imply, nor do they assume, that 'there was something wrong' in the Attorney's Office's actions, but it is definitely vital to know what happened 'after the original safeguarding': 'what was done.'

On Wednesday, the leader announced that she requested the Attorney General's Office (FGR), headed by Alejandro Gertz Manero, to take over the cases related to the discovery of extermination sites in the state of Jalisco. At that moment, she stated that the prosecutor 'is right in many things,' who participated in Tuesday's morning conference, but it is important and essential to investigate and find out 'what really happened there.' This coordinated investigation is important apart from obviously clarifying responsibilities.

On Tuesday, Gertz Manero had mentioned that the agency under his command would investigate the discovery of extermination sites and clandestine crematories in Jalisco, as established by the protocol prior to taking it over. He explained in the National Palace that this finding is a matter that 'must lead us to a very important reflection' on the importance of controlling common law crimes, adding that before the FGR can take over the case, it must conduct an investigation 'about the history' behind these centers. It is not credible that a situation of this nature would not have been known by municipal and state authorities.
