The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) has accepted a new constitutional controversy against the reform of the Judiciary, published in the Official Diary of the Federation (DOF) on September 15. This new controversy 298/2024 was presented by the Judiciary of the State of Guanajuato. Minister Juan Luis González Alcántara Carrancá has been appointed to handle this case, being one of the five lawsuits presented before the full Supreme Court that have been assigned to him so far.
Minister González Alcántara Carrancá must decide whether to accept the new appeal against the changes in justice in Mexico. For their part, the authorities of Guanajuato have filed two appeals against the reform, the first presented by Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, the outgoing governor of the entity. Both cases are in the hands of the aforementioned minister.
Together with the controversy from Guanajuato, the SCJN has received unconstitutionality actions 164/2024, 165/2024, 166/2024, 167/2024, and 170/2024, filed by PAN, PRI, deputies of the congress of Zacatecas, Movimiento Ciudadano, and the Democratic Unity party of Coahuila, respectively.
Despite efforts to repeal the reform after a ruling from Judge Nancy Juárez, President Claudia Sheinbaum has stated that she will not comply with said ruling, receiving support from Morena, whose members have indicated they will work to resolve all pending issues and overcome the amparos and appeals filed regarding this initiative.
