Guanajuato Enhances Sports Infrastructure for Olympics

The Sports Commission of the State of Guanajuato, under the direction of Yendy Cortinas López, the first woman to lead the CODE, is implementing programs to offer specialized resources to athletes in disciplines such as travel, camps, and training. These programs aim to ensure optimal preparation for future competitions.

One of the main focuses of Cortinas López's management is the improvement of sports infrastructure in the state. Aquatic centers are being developed in Coroneo and Irapuato, facilities are being remodeled in Pénjamo, and the Centenario Sports Unit is being created in Apaseo El Grande. Cortinas López emphasizes collaboration with national institutions such as the National Sports Commission (Conade) and the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) to ensure the success of sports programs in Guanajuato.

At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Guanajuato delegation won a silver medal and three Olympic diplomas through the participation of 11 athletes.

Recently, the formation of 2,000 physical activation groups in the 46 municipalities of Guanajuato led by 1,000 trained instructors was announced. This project aims to promote physical activity and community well-being in the region. The governor of Guanajuato, Libia García Muñoz Ledo, highlighted the importance of these programs to foster healthy habits and discover sporting talents from an early age.

Among the highlighted projects is the rehabilitation of the Macro Aquatic Center of the capital of Guanajuato, which has significant investment and is expected to be completed by mid-2025. Currently, it is estimated that Guanajuato has around 150 athletes with potential to represent the state at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. It is expected that the physical activation groups will also serve as a platform to identify and support high-performance athletes.

In addition, the state of Guanajuato is strengthening its support for high-performance athletes through specific programs that provide economic and logistical backing in their preparation for national and international competitions, with a comprehensive focus on the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
