A search group located 35 clandestine graves in a clandestine cemetery in the state of Sonora, in northwestern Mexico. It is estimated that these graves contain the remains of more than 50 disappearance victims. All the victims were from the Guaymas valley, and their families plead for the authorities to allow the recovery of the bodies.
Cecilia Delgado, founder of the collective Seekers for Peace, who previously found her son's remains and is currently searching for a missing nephew, explained that they received tips about the location of this clandestine cemetery through anonymous messages. Following a call from an unknown informant, the corresponding findings were made.
The Attorney General of Justice in Sonora, Gustavo Rómulo Salas Chávez, confirmed the discovery and pointed out that it will be necessary to spend several weeks processing the crime scene to recover the human remains. The identification of the victims will be carried out through comparative genetic tests.
The graves were discovered by the activists on Highway 26, which connects Hermosillo with Bahía de Kino. The conditions of the terrain facilitated the creation of these clandestine graves, located in a stream at kilometer 20. Members of other collectives, such as Warrior Seekers of Guaymas and Empalme, joined the search efforts in solidarity.
This is not the first discovery of clandestine graves in the region, as 53 bodies were found near the cemetery in El Choyudo a year ago. The process of identifying all the victims will take weeks, and more graves are expected to be discovered in the upcoming explorations.
