Workers from the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) in Guerrero have made an urgent call to the federal and state governments and the Ministry of Health to address a series of irregularities affecting the institution. In a letter sent to various authorities, they denounced precarious working conditions, misuse of resources, and possible acts of corruption under the leadership of Dr. César Manuel Espinoza Suástegui and his team.
One of the main complaints refers to the lack of basic supplies such as body bags and low-quality gloves, which, according to the employees, endangers both their health and the adequate provision of services. Additionally, they accused the improper use of official vehicles, including alterations for personal purposes, which was detailed with concrete examples.
Another area of concern was the lack of transparency in the management of financial resources, especially regarding travel allowances, which apparently favored a small group of individuals linked to the administration. Cases of forgery of signatures and the inappropriate allocation of allowances to individuals outside the service were mentioned.
Workers also exposed cases of workplace harassment, highlighting intimidation against those who question management's decisions and the imposition of measures without consulting the affected staff. As a result of these irregularities, workers demanded the immediate removal of the general director and his team, arguing that their lack of experience and ethics has severely harmed the operation of SEMEFO.
If they do not receive a response to their demands, employees threatened to close the three official SEMEFO offices in Guerrero, which would impact forensic services throughout the region. These complaints add to the concerning situation in Mexico regarding the identification of missing persons, with a large number of unidentified corpses and overwhelmed forensic services at the state level, as confirmed by the UN Committee Against Enforced Disappearances.
