President Claudia Sheinbaum inaugurated the first Economic Development Pole for Well-being in Huamantla, with private investments of over 500 million dollars. This 53-hectare project is expected to create five thousand direct jobs.
During her tour in Tlaxcala, she highlighted that despite the difficult circumstances the world is facing, Mexico is an example. In the first quarter, not only have vehicle sales and the number of tourists increased, but the peso is stable, and "inflation remains within the target ranges" despite the increase in gasoline and diesel prices.
"The good fortune is that things are working... More car sales, more foreign investment, more tourism in the country, the peso is stable, and with all the international circumstances, inflation remains within the target ranges. Well, it's a reality," she stated.
According to Ebrard, President Sheinbaum, while having to face "very difficult times," is negotiating trade treaties, working on creating incentives to generate investments and create jobs throughout the country.
"If I had told you one day, when these works were not yet underway, that there would be an investment of over 500 million dollars in these plots, you would not have believed me, you would have doubted," he said.
He explained that this necessarily requires coordination with the private sector, and therefore, they are seeking an integral model where "the people of Mexico live better and, at the same time, there are more investments to generate better jobs with better salaries for all Mexicans; guarantee a welfare state for Mexicans and the conditions for sustainable investment that allow Mexico to continue growing".
He explained that, as part of the "Mexico Plan," the 15 economic development poles to be established throughout the country—of which eight will be located in the southeast—are plots being urbanized to create greater investment opportunities for private companies, which receive tax incentives.
The head of the federal executive detailed that by investing in the development pole, the Ministry of Economy provides economic incentives to accelerate investments and so that in the first years they do not pay some taxes until they are in production.
The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, stated that the Economic Development Pole for Well-being in Huamantla will generate five thousand new direct jobs related to the automotive, food, and metal-mechanical industries, both national and foreign.
"We are talking about an investment of over 500 million dollars. It is said easily and quickly, but it is a fortune. I feel very confident, very optimistic, for 2026," she said.
In this sense, the head of state—accompanied by the governor of Tlaxcala, Lorena Cuéllar—referred that her government, in collaboration with entrepreneurs, is seeking to maintain not only the fuel prices to avoid an inflationary process in the country, but also the basic basket.
Sheinbaum emphasized that the State cannot do it alone, so it is necessary to work jointly with the private sector, which in turn requires the conditions to invest: "The State cannot do everything. Where do they get those figures?"
