Following the tragic rollover of a bus on the Mitla-Tehuantepec highway in Juchitán, Oaxaca, local authorities have declared two days of mourning in memory of the 18 deceased, including two minors. A diligent effort by rescuers and Civil Protection personnel allowed the bodies of the victims to be returned to their families. In addition, 30 injured persons continue to receive care in public and private hospitals in the region.
The deceased were supporters of the Morena party, as confirmed by the Morena State Committee in a statement led by Emmanuel Navarro. They deeply lamented the loss of their comrades in the movement and declared that "their movement is in mourning."
According to published photographs, Morena militants had attended a rally called by President Claudia Sheinbaum in Mexico City and were heading back to Juchitán. Civil Protection authorities are investigating the causes of the rollover of the Fletes y Pasajes bus, which fell into a ravine of nearly 5 meters.
Through a video circulating on social media, it can be seen that three minors were the ones who requested help after the accident. Zapotec senator Antonino Morales expressed his sorrow on social media for the loss of his comrades, assuring that they will be given all necessary support.
