UNAM Partners to Enhance Healthcare Technology

The UNAM has signed an agreement to improve access to medical devices for patients with disabilities, aiming for better quality of life and job creation in the healthcare sector.

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has signed a collaboration agreement with various government entities, including the Ministry of Health, to develop technological solutions that improve the quality of life for patients and promote technological autonomy in the health sector.

UNAM, through its National School of Higher Studies (ENES) Juriquilla Unit, is one of the few institutions in Latin America that offers a Bachelor's degree in Orthotics and Prosthetics. This agreement aims to improve access to medical devices and provide care to people with disabilities.

The UNAM Prosthetics and Orthotics Unit has cutting-edge technology and a multidisciplinary approach to assist amputees, offering services in physiotherapy, nutrition, social work, and neuropsychology. This agreement seeks not only to train professionals in the field but also to ensure that prosthetics are accessible and a right for those in need.

Among the participants in the signing of the agreement were representatives from the Ministry of Health, as well as the director of the National Rehabilitation Institute, noting that approximately 27,000 amputations are performed annually in Mexico, while the production of prosthetics in public institutions is limited.

The rector of UNAM emphasized the importance of research and technological development to ensure access to quality health services. With this collaboration between public and private institutions, the aim is to promote innovation in the sector and improve the quality of life for those who need specialized medical devices.
