Preparation for the Fire Season in Querétaro

The State Coordination of Civil Protection of Querétaro expects this year's forest fire season to be somewhat lighter than the previous one, but urges the population to remain alert to possible emergency situations.

According to Amaya Torres, the head of the Coordination, the fire that occurred in Landa de Matamoros was deliberately set, reinforcing the importance of avoiding actions that may trigger such incidents, such as burning grasslands or throwing away trash and cigarette butts, which are responsible for more than 80% of current fires.

The state government has activated a special operation to address the forest fire season. Following the first fire recently recorded in El Lobo, Civil Protection Coordinator Javier Amaya assured that the flames were controlled the same day, affecting 2.5 hectares, primarily of pine and leaf litter.

In response to this incident, working meetings have been initiated with the coordinators of the 18 municipalities to prepare response efforts, especially in areas at higher risk of forest fires due to tree density.

During this time of year, which tends to be the most critical regarding fires, the majority of forest incidents occur, accounting for between 85% and 90% of the fires recorded throughout the year.
