León Mayor Promotes Citizen Participation in Projects

The mayor stated that a city where citizens have more power and participate actively is a stronger city. In this year's edition of the Participa León 2025 program, 74 winning projects have been selected in the seven delegations of León, with a total investment of 230 million pesos. With a historic participation of 61,855 votes, the program consolidates itself as a national benchmark in participatory budgeting, allowing 74 community projects to be executed for the benefit of citizens.

Ale Gutiérrez, the municipal president, delivered certificates to the individuals who promoted the winning projects and highlighted that this initiative reflects a government that listens and responds to the needs of its people, fostering a new culture of citizen participation.

In this edition, projects such as the rehabilitation of the auditorium at the Enrique Fernández Martínez sports center in Del Carmen and the first phase of creating a mini sports center in Villas del Country in Las Joyas stand out, among others. Additionally, 67 additional community projects were selected, distributed among the delegations, including infrastructure, transportation, and recreation initiatives.

The Participa León 2025 program began in June 2024 with 21 co-creation workshops, where over a thousand citizens proposed ideas to improve their communities. Subsequently, 284 projects were registered, which, after rigorous validation, were put to a vote. Voting was conducted through three modalities: WhatsApp, a web page, and in person, with the support of the National Electoral Institute (INE) to ensure transparency throughout the process.

Among the selected projects are the second phase of cobblestone paving with concrete imprint on Llano del Trueno Street in Cerrito de Jerez, the improvement of the route home in Cerro Gordo, the paving of Santa Lourdes Street, and the construction of a dome at Secondary School No. 58 in Coecillo.

In addition to the winners, the mayor announced that the government will execute nine projects that had not been selected in previous editions, allocating municipal resources to carry them out.
