Regularization of Settlements in León

The Municipal Housing Institute of León (IMUVI) has launched informational campaigns to alert citizens about the risks of acquiring land in irregular areas. Its goal is to regularize at least 30 settlements during this triennium. To prevent fraud and irregular settlements, IMUVI is working on the legalization of existing settlements and aims to curb the proliferation of land without legal certainty.

One of the neighborhoods benefiting from these actions is La Perlita, where families lived for more than two decades in a situation of uncertainty due to the lack of deeds supporting the ownership of their homes and formal access to basic services. However, they recently became the first neighborhood to be regularized in this triennium.

The León City Council approved the regularization of La Perlita, guaranteeing the 476 residents of this settlement access to documents proving their ownership and to basic services such as drinking water, sanitation, and electricity. This news represents a significant change for people like Juana Romero, who has lived in La Perlita for over 20 years, expressing: "We are going to be better now, with their water, their light, and everything, just the drainage."

La Perlita covers 23,000 square meters and has 122 lots, being the first settlement to be regularized in this administration.
