
The Club León of Liga MX has confirmed that their player Nicolás Fonseca was the victim of a highway robbery in which his truck was stolen. The events took place near the Lagos de Moreno highway, Jalisco, on February 27, 2025. The team issued an official statement regarding this incident involving the Italian-Uruguayan player.
According to the statement, Nicolás Fonseca was heading to a training session when he was intercepted by armed men on the free highway León-Lagos de Moreno. Although the criminals held him for a while, they eventually abandoned him in an unpopulated area after traveling several kilometers with him. Fonseca's BMW truck was found further down from the place of the robbery.
The Prosecutor's Office of Guanajuato is collaborating with Jalisco's to investigate the robbery and kidnapping suffered by the footballer. Club León has requested not to spread rumors and to respect the player's privacy regarding these events. Despite what happened, it was reported that Nicolás Fonseca is doing well and continues to train normally with his teammates for the upcoming match.
The Club thanked the support and solidarity received from the fans and denied any unofficial information regarding Fonseca's health status. In January 2025, Nicolás Fonseca joined Club León as a reinforcement and has since become a key player for the team leading the Mexican League's Clausura Tournament. León's next match will be against Tijuana at home, during Matchday 10 of Clausura 2025.
