In Linares, Nuevo León, residents of at least three neighborhoods experienced a night of terror due to a shooting that broke out in the municipality during the last hours of Tuesday. According to videos shared on social media shortly after 10:00 PM, high-caliber gunfire could be seen and heard, generating fear among the population.
It is presumed that the shooting resulted from a confrontation between a criminal group and authorities, with Provileón being one of the most affected neighborhoods by the heavy gunfire. By dawn on Wednesday, no official statement had been issued regarding this violent incident, which is part of a series of insecurity situations that have been occurring in Linares in recent weeks.
From kidnappings carried out in broad daylight to footage from security cameras showing how people are deprived of their freedom, the perception of insecurity in the municipality has increased significantly. Despite this, Governor Samuel García highlighted during his Regional Report in Guadalupe that the perception of security in Nuevo León has improved according to the results of the National Urban Public Security Survey (ENSU).
García noted that in the last three years, the security index in Nuevo León has improved by 10 points, decreasing from 51 to 40. He emphasized that the state does not have security alerts issued by the United States, unlike other states, which benefits tourism and investment in the region.
